October this year will see the follow up to last year’s hugely successful Made In Roath Arts Festival. The festival will be taking place on 15th-17th October 2010, in various locations around Roath, Cardiff.

A community-based project promising an exciting and eclectic mix of exhibitions, residencies, workshops, performances and more, Made in Roath aims to give local people the opportunity to view, enjoy and celebrate local arts.

Made in Roath is open to everyone from professional artists to those trying out a new hobby. We are now gathering ideas and recruiting volunteers to get involved in this year’s festival. If you’re interested in showing work, helping out and/or just feel you might have something special to offer please contact madeinroath@gmail.com

Open House

Made In Roath Festival is also host to the Open House trail….which invites people to open their houses and/or studios to show art work. Below are the Open Houses for this years festival.

Dominic Gubb
Dominic Gubb’s practice is all about unlocking the potential
of reclaimed materials. On show a selection of sculptures
of dogs and birds made from leather, plastic and rope.

Pauline Monkcom
Pauline Monkcom ceramic pieces are based on old ’OS’
maps. highlighting the richness of surface and colour
possible in ceramics.

Isabel Burgess
Experimental paintings, with a richness of colour and surface
pattern which are inspired by her garden in France

Ben Gubb
Ben’s subject matter often shifts between people and places
or landscapes. His aim with each work is to evoke a sense of
atmosphere or feeling.

Caroline Taylor
In her ceramic practice Caroline takes familiar items
with a known function and presents them in new and
surprising ways.

Tom O’Connell
Tom will be making a site specific piece in the garden, combining
a variety of materials. “I enjoy creating pieces which contain
humanistic forms but that are essentially about materials
and their possibilities”.

Fiona Mathison
Installation artist Fiona has produced a ‘Constructed Forest’
from recylced materials. Fruit juice cartons
have become the basic ‘wood’ of the forest. The logos become
like a species of tree, the metal linings a way to reflect a dappled
light.

Hannah Mathison
A sculptor who creates small and unique sculptures with
objects she finds and is inspired by.

Katy Lake
In 2004 Katie launched her own company, Mistress Metal,
producing distinctive and contemporary metalwork
designs for interior and exterior environments.

Hilary Lomas

images of bubbles that look like my amazing imaginary
